What is Semi Permanent Makeup?
What is Semi Permanent Makeup?
Semi-permanent make-up (SMPU) is also known as permanent makeup or micro pigmentation. Semi-permanent makeup is well established and a proven safe beauty procedure and is fundamentally, a form of tattooing. The cosmetic tattooing is perfectly safe and involves applying pigment into the skin with needles. The skin then heals, leaving the pigment residue where it has been placed. Specially formulated pigments are placed in the upper layers of the dermis where it can remain for up to three years. A choice of colour of pigment can be chosen from or by mixing colours created, giving you the natural look you require.
Nicola uses only superior pigments from KBPro, that are safe, hypoallergenic, gamma ray tested and provide the best long term colour power and stability.

Are Permanent Cosmetics the same as Tattoos?
No! Definitely Not! Although permanent cosmetics are a form of tattooing, the location of the tattoo and the ways in which both are designed and placed on the skin are very different. Permanent cosmetics are intended to be natural-looking enhancements, whereas tattoos are designed to look very visible on the skin. Leading on from this, the pigments, needles, machines, application techniques and colour theory are all different. The pigment sits very differently in the face to other areas of the body and colours can heal differently too, which means it is imperative your cosmetic tattooing technician is trained for cosmetic tattooing and not just tattooing!

Why Have Permanent Cosmetic Treatments?
There are a vast number of reasons why people might choose permanent cosmetics. Overall permanent cosmetics helps improve your appearance or to to correct asymmetrical features or medical conditions. The benefits of permanent cosmetics include:
-
Saving time - busy people with little time to apply make-up everyday.
-
People with allergies for conventional make-up
-
Those physically unable to apply make-up
-
People with alopecia
-
Replace what has been lost - those with sparse or no eyebrows/eyelashes
-
Contact lens users
-
Vision impaired people who have difficulty applying make-up.
-
Those seeking to correct asymmetrical features
-
Corrective treatments after accidents or surgery
-
Confidence - those who seek to look their best at all times
-
Freedom from daily make up routines
-
Restore appearance - particularly older clients whose natural colouring have faded.

Do I need a top-up? Why do Permanent Cosmetics Fade?
Traditional tattoos are intended to last the lifetime of the client. The pigment is placed deeper into the skin compared to cosmetic tattooing and only laser removal will ever have a chance of removing the tattoo. Permanent cosmetics are different as the pigment is placed in just the upper layers of skin and is specifically designed to fade within time. Cosmetic tattooists do this because traditional tattoos on the face can dramatically deteriorate over a short time and instead of fading out naturally they can turn into a blue/green colour and because the pigment holds differently in the skin of the face if too much pigment inserted into the area can cause tattoos to 'bleed out' over time, and will generally look very bad very quickly! With permanent cosmetics the colour theory and application is paramount to achieving natural-looking permanent cosmetics which can be adjusted and altered to suit the clients changing facial features over time.

Considering Cosmetic Tattooing?
Nicola's aim with semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing is to create a look with beautifully contoured individual hairstrokes that will enhance your natural features and produce a soft 'day-time' result that is designed not to be noticed! Nicola promotes a natural, realistic brow - be it feathery, full or fine - avoiding the 'fashion brow' trends, to give you a clean and youthful appearance with the added bonus of saving you time with your daily beauty routine!
Nicola uses a cartridge based tattoo machine with an incredibly fine needle to implant pigment into the skin quickly and safely. This creates a brow that heals well and lasts longer as there is much less trauma to the skin as compared with Microblading, and for this reason also has better retention for oilier skin types.

Nicola is happy to consider working on brows that have been previously worked on by another artist or brows that may need corrective shaping/colour work.
